Villagers of Mikuri and Bangyul villages under Dungmaed Gewog in Pema Gatshel are heaving a sigh of relief that the road in their locality have been blacktopped.

They said apart from economic and transport benefits, the blacktopped road has addressed dust pollution.

“Before, we had to endure thick dust when heavy vehicles pass through. Since we face water scarcity, it was challenging to clear the dust. After the road was blacktopped, the situation has really improved,” said one of the shopkeepers in Bangyul village, Pema Tshomo.

The 6km road from Bangyul to Mikuri was blacktopped recently by the Department of Roads under Ministry of Works and Human Settlement.  The route is part of 38km feeder road from Pema Gatshel to Durungri.  The blacktopping for remaining 32km stretch will be carried out in the next financial year.

The road is benefiting the 11 gewogs of Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag.
