The recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) session of Trashigang rubber-stamped the decision to send an engineer and an accountant to gewog offices.

The decision was made, after local leaders of 15 gewogs raised concerns of not able to execute developmental activities as planned. At present, engineers and accountants are stationed at dzongkhag headquarter, which is known as dzongkhag administration office.

“We need a civil engineer and an accountant in gewog offices. Without them, whatever plans are made, it cannot be implemented,” said Kulung, the Gup of Radhi Gewog.

The amended Local Government Act also outlines the need for an engineer and an accountant in gewogs, added other gups. “Without engineers and accountants, we cannot carry out the works properly and then major portion of our budget taken back by the central government during fiscal year closing,” said Gup of Sagteng Gewog, Sangay Dorji.

Trashigang with 15 gewogs is one of the largest districts in the country.
