(Update): The H5N1 outbreak reported in the Zangdoperlri area in Samdrup Jongkhar is under control, says the National Centre for Animal Health.

An incident operation centre that has been established is carrying out disease containment works.

No new foul death cases have been reported in the Zangdopelri area, which has become a home to Tsethar chickens.

More than 36 poultry birds have died due to the disease and 24 others were culled to prevent the spread of the disease.

Town residents said the birds started dying some time ago but officials were alerted only last Tuesday.

The dzongkhag’s health workers are carrying out monitoring and surveillance activities to prevent human cases of H5N1.

Vehicle disinfection point has been set up at two entry points- the border gate and the Pinchina chekpost, to prevent the spread of the disease to other districts.
