Highest taxpayers, best performing customs officials awarded with certificates

The Department of Revenue and Customs observed this year’s International Customs Day in Monggar on 26 January. It was themed ‘A secure business environment for economic development.’

The Director of Revenue and Customs Department, Yonten Namgyel said, Bhutan is a member state of World Customs Organisation which encourages them to create suitable environment for doing businesses (WCO). “The responsibility of our department is to make good partnership between countries and foster healthy relationship between us and entrepreneurs.”

Coinciding with the International Customs Day, the department also awarded WCO merit certificates to best performing custom officials and clearing agents.  The Revenue Inspector, Jigme Dorji in Thimphu was awarded the WCO certificate for best employee of the year.

Sonam Drukpa, a businessman has been awarded certificate for being the highest Personal Income Tax (PIT) payer of 2016. Along with the certificate, he received duty free card and enjoy airport lounge services. He has contributed over Nu 21m as PIT to the government.

Top 10 business and corporate taxpayers having good compliance record for the last five years also received certificates of appreciation from the Department of Revenue and Customs.
