By June this year, Bumthang will have a new Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) hall. The construction of DT hall is underway and so far 40 per cent of the structure has been completed.

The single-storey hall is being built just above Wangdichholing Lower Secondary School. It’s being built at a cost of about Nu 13m. The dzongkhag administration is planning to conduct all DT sessions in the new hall beginning next year. The current hall, which is inside the Jakar Dzong, is not spacious enough to accommodate all stakeholders during the meetings. Add to this, parking congestion is another issue concerning the stakeholders.

“We have a very small hall at the moment, so it’s difficult to fit in all the members. And when certain resolutions are endorsed, not many stakeholders know,” said Pema Letho, the Municipal Engineer, adding that hopefully all the stakeholders will attend DT sessions once the new hall is complete.

The project will not only include the main structure but also the parking lot. For that, the dzongkhag is going to propose additional budget in the 12th Five-Year-Plan.
