A month-long winter youth golf programme concluded in Thimphu, today. Organised by the Bhutan Golf Federation, a tournament was organised to mark the closure of the programme. Close to 200 youth, aged 6 to 18, took part in the programme.

Young participants learned the basics of golf. Some of the participants were first timers whilst others played golf before. After getting trained for over a month, the participants took part in the Bhutan Youth Golf Tournament, yesterday and today. The participants were glad being part of the annual event.  “I am very happy coming for the programme. I could make a lot of friends. I am interested to come again next winter. I learnt about golf and also took part in a tournament,” said one of the participants, Tandin Wangmo.

Other participants expressed similar views. “I enjoyed a lot. I learnt putter, chipping, range, etc… Learning gold during winter vacation was fun. I also made a lot of friends,” said Ugyen Wangchuk.

The programme was organised to introduce golf to youth at a young age, and to encourage students not to leave school. Tournament winners and runners-up were awarded with certificates, a school bag, and stationeries. All the participants received a set of school dress each.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs based in the UK, and the Bhutan Olympic Committee supported the training and the tournament.
