Wild elephant damages 3 houses, injures one

Farmers of Sibsoo Gewog in Samtse are frequently attacked by wild elephant damaging houses and properties. In a latest incident three houses have been damaged at three different places in Sibsoo injuring a woman on Wednesday.

According to the daughter of the injured woman, half of their mother’s body got buried after the wall collapsed when the elephant tried to enter the house. However, the elephant could not enter the house as the neighbours came for rescue and chased away the animal.

Farmers say without any crops left in the fields elephants are now attacking houses looking for food.

Some of the villagers said though Sibsoo is a pleasant place to live, frequent visit of wild elephant in their vicinity throughout the season is a major concern.

“Because of the attacks we cannot harvest any of our crops. If concerned authority could find some solution to prevent this problem,” said a concerned local resident.

Sibsoo Gewog has 514 households. It is 50 kilometres away from Samtse town.
