His Majesty The King yesterday graced Gasa Dzongkhag’s celebrations to mark 25 years as a Dzongkhag. His Majesty was accompanied by Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey.

Gasa completes 25 years as a Dzongkhag this year. Gasa was under the administration of Punakha Dzongkhag until 1992.  Their Majesties joined the people of Gasa in celebrating the Dzongkhag’s silver jubilee. His Majesty also interacted with the people.

After offering of Ku-Sung-Thug Ghi Mendrel, the people of Gasa also offered Buelwa to Their Majesties.

His Majesty hosted lunch for more than 2,000 people gathered to celebrate the occasion.

Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, senior officials, former Dzongdas and Lam Netens attended the event. Songs, dances and other entertainment programs were also performed as part of the celebrations.

Earlier in the morning, Their Majesties visited Gasa’s Trashi Thongmoen Dzong for the installation of the Ap Gomo Statue in the Dzong’s Goenkhang. Ap Gomo is considered to be one of the country’s two guardian deities appointed by Zhabdrung.

The statue was offered by His Majesty in 2011. It was temporarily sheltered in another lhakhang of the Dzong since the Utse was being renovated.
