His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen today celebrated the traditional day of offering with His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the venerable Lopens of the Zhung Dratshang and the third batch of De-Suups at the Lingkana palace in Punakha.

Yesterday, His Majesty the King met with the De-Suups at the military training centre in Tencholing, Wangduephodrang.

The batch consists of teachers from across the country.

Addressing the De-Suups, His Majesty explained the concept of De-Suung and how it started.

His Majesty said the De-Suung was initiated to promote peace and happiness in the community, the society and the nation at large.

It aims to promote the spirit of volunteerism, inspire young leaders to work for the good of society, and help them become strong, responsible individuals who will throughout their lives work for the peace and security of the nation.

His Majesty said teachers need to play a vital role in nation building.

His Majesty also emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting the age old culture and tradition.

Her Majesty met with the family members of the army personnel at the military training centre.
