Sonam Kuenphen Higher Secondary School claimed the title of the 5th Chumey Open football Championship. They defeated the Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) in the final played on Sunday by four goals to on.

Right after the first whistle the game saw BPC team constantly testing Sonam Kuenphen’s team. However, they failed to capitalise.

This failure cost BPC team a goal.

And this was just the beginning.

Seven minutes later, BPC team conceded their second goal in similar manner to the first one.

Another goal followed eight minutes later.

The intensity of the game continued during the second half. However, Sonam Kuenphen team was reduced to ten men when one of their teammates was red-carded.

This advantage was quickly taken by the BPC team by scoring their first goal.

However, Sonam Kuenphen team was not held back by this goal. They were back into action 13 minutes later to claim the title and a cash prize of Nu. 3500.

Thirteen teams including two from Trongsa took part in the tournament.

Organised by Chumey Middle Secondary School this year, the tournament was initiated with the theme ‘Say No To Drugs’.
