Still left without a Dzongda

Dagana Dzongkhag has been functioning without a Dzongda for the last two months. The absence of Dzongda, according to the local leaders, is inconvenient and hampering the developmental activities in the Dzongkhag.

The post of Dagana Dzongda has remained vacant, after the former Dzongda was sent on compulsory retirement in October last year. The local leaders then appealed the Home Ministry to appoint a new Dzongda since the post of Dzongrab was also vacant.  A new Dzongrab was appointed, but the Dzongkhag has no Dzongda yet. And, this according to the Gups, is hampering the developmental and other activities in the Dzongkhag.

“Even though the new Dzongrab is officiating the post of the Dzongda, we face lots of problems as he is new to the Dzongkhag,” said Khebisa Gup, UgyenDorji.

“We don’t know if it is because of lack of capable people or due to other problems. For the past two months, since the Dzongrab cannot take decisions we have been facing lots of problem,” said another local leader, Dorji.

However, the Officiating Dzongda, Wangchuk Dorji, said that it was not a major concern. “After I took over the administration works, one and half month back, we did not face any problem in resolving policy or developmental issues. This is due to experienced and capable sector heads and Local leaders in Geog.”

The local leaders, however, maintain that it is not convenient to work without a Dzongda in the Dzongkhag.  Sources said Home Ministry has already identified a new Dzongda for Dagana Dzongkhag and will soon be sent to the Dzongkhag.
