Thimphu district court was burgled on the night of January 2. An amount of Nu. 575,000 had been stolen. The Police said, the door was not broken down but it was pulled hard from outside.

As per the statement of the court’s accountant to the police, the sweeper informed the office assistant when she found the filing cabinet broken and some cash scattered on the floor. The office assistant informed the accountant, who then reported the matter to the police.

According to the accountant, the money a was surety bail amount gathered from the litigants over the week and court’s miscellaneous fund.

The money was kept in a steel safe in the accounts office. The accountant said that the money was supposed to be deposited in the bank on Friday but since it was the financial closing year, the bank did not accept the deposit.

Lieutenant Singye Wangdi of the Police said some match sticks were recovered from the crime scene. He added that the miscreants had used the match as their source of light.

The case is under investigation.
