The Thimphu district court has sentenced a health official to 10 years in prison for embezzlement.
The verdict was passed yesterday.
Ngawang Gyeltshen was found guilty of embezzling Nu. two million while he was working as the Liaison Officer in Kolkatta from 2004 to 2007.
In addition to the prison term, Ngawang Gyeltshen has to refund the money he had embezzled.
A woman from Paro, who assisted him to make fake agreements, has been sentenced to six months in prison.
She can pay a fine in lieu of the prison term.
They can appeal to the High Court within 10 working days.
