To curb the rupee deficit in the country, the government has decided to allow Indian companies providing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Bhutan to invest in Indian rupees.
The FDI policy has been amended slightly to make this possible.
Earlier, Indian FDIs could invest only in convertible currencies such as dollars, Euros and pounds.
There are 26 FDI projects in the country. Of these 11 are Indian projects.
Apart from Indian FDIs, others will have to invest in convertible currencies.
