Additional police chief and four deputy chiefs appointed

His Majesty the King has appointed an additional chief and four deputy chiefs of police. The additional chief of police and the four deputy chiefs received Tashi Khadhar (scarves) from the Home and Cultural Affairs Minister Minjur Dorji at a ceremony at the Royal Bhutan Police head office in Thimphu today.

Colonel Tshewang Dendup, the superintendent of administration and finance, is the additional chief of police. He will preside over the duties of the Chief of Police in the absence of the Chief of Police.

Colonel Thinley Drukla will work as the Deputy Chief of Crime. He was serving as the superintendent of Information and Technology.

Colonel Ugyen Sonam is the new Deputy Chief of the Special Police Branch. He was serving as the superintendent of the Special Police Divisions.

The Deputy Chief of Administration and Finance is Colonel Ninda Wangdi. He has been serving as the superintendent of division III in Phuentsholing.

Lt. Colonel Chimi Dorji, who has been serving as the superintendent of the investigation bureau, has been appointed as the Deputy Chief of Investigation Bureau.

The appointments were made in accordance with section 18 of the police act of 2009 from among a list of names recommended by the Prime Minister based on seniority, qualification, and capability.

Most of the decisions in the police will be made by the additional chief and the deputy chiefs in consultation with the Chief of Police.
