The pedestrian underpass near swimming pool complex on the Doebum Lam in Thimphu is now illuminated with lights and has CCTV cameras installed.

Thimphu Thromde hopes the people will now use the underpass, which has been lying unused since its construction in 2009.

“All these facilities are being provided so that people feel safe to use them” said Thimphu Thrompon Kinlay Dorjee. “Initially, this underpass was not designed properly. They just made the underpass and there were no other facilities,” added the Thrompon.

He also said that it is safer for people to use the underpass especially during rush hours, which will remain open from 7:30 in the morning to 9 pm.

The other underpass on the Doebum Lam below Changangkha School, which has also been improved will reopen soon.

Thimphu Thromde is planning to construct similar underpasses along the express way if the current ones prove effective.
