The league stage of the ongoing Women’s T-20 Club Championship is nearing completion and it’s the Sarpang Strikers who have made their spot for the finals almost certain.

The girls from Sarpang, yesterday, defeated Dechencholing Nazhoen to win three consecutive matches and top the league table.

After bowling out Dechencholing Nazhoen to a meager score of 94 runs, Sarpang Strikers wasted no time in chasing down the total.

Captain Anju Gurung followed up her fine performance with the ball by putting on a 68 run partnership with Sonam Peldon. Sarpang Tigers chased down the target in the 13th over. Sonam Peldon remained not out on 85. Anju Gurung was later the adjudged player of the match for her three wickets and 16 runs.

“Our aim was to win against them because if we win this game then surely we can reach final,” said Anju Gurung, the Captain of Sarpang Strikers.

The Captain of Dechencholing Nazhoen Dechen Wangmo explained why they lost the game.

“Actually our team is not that bad but we made some simple mistakes like catches were dropped and runout chances missed. Also, there were some miss fielding” she added.

In the second match, yesterday, Parop Tigers suffered yet another defeat. This time at the hands of Bajo Cricket Club. It was a good toss to win for Parop Tigers who opted to bowl first. Early wickets and some disciplined bowling helped them to restrict Bajo to 92 runs in 20 overs. Any score under 100 at the Pelkhil ground looked achievable but it was not Parop Tigers’ day for they managed only 57 runs. So, Bajo Cricket Club won the match by 35 runs.

Top two teams from league round will advance to the final. After yesterday’s result, a spot in the final looks likely for Sarpang Strikers. However, with a game in hand, Ugyen Academy looks the potential challengers for the top spot.

Dechencholing Nazhoen is keeping their fingers crossed to win both their remaining matches and other teams hope the same in their quest to reach the finals, scheduled to take place on July 24.
