Villagers of Umling Gewog in Sarpang are eagerly waiting for the completion of new Basic Health Unit (BHU).

The construction of the BHU, located about one and a half kilometres from the existing facility is in full swing.   The present BHU is located near the Umling Lower Secondary School. However lack of adequate space and facilities, health staff are not able to render quality health care to the patients. In addition, the school creates noise pollution around the BHU premises.

When the new BHU structure are complete, the existing one will be taken over by the Umling School.

“Once we move in to the new BHU, we would get modern health kits and the rooms will be big enough to cater to every patients,” said the Health Assistant of Umling BHU, Sonam Tshering.

Other than Umling Gewog, the new health centre will benefit the people of Taraythang Gewog. The Umling Gup said after the new BHU becomes operational, people in the two gewogs need not have to travel to Gelegphu Central Regional Referral Hospital.

“If the new BHU is upgraded to grade 1 BHU with a doctor, it can provide medical services as per the demand of the people here,” added Ugyen Norbu, Umling Gup.

The construction commenced last October and is hoped to be wrapped up by this October. Government’s fund of over Nu 15 M is being invested for the BHU construction.
