Landslides kill 3

(UPDATE) Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have bereaved a family in Singye village in Sampheling Geog Chhukha of two family members.

The victims, a 15-year-old boy and a six-year-old boy lost their lives when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall buried the room they were sleeping early this morning. Another 2 member of the family were injured in the incident.

The two boys were fast asleep in the room when a landslide from the back of their house buried the room. The incident took place around 2 in the morning.

The 15-year-old boy was a student of Pasakha lower secondary school. The other victim- a six-year-old boy was his nephew.

The family members who were sleeping in the other two rooms managed to pull out the six-year-old boy out of the rubble in about half an hour.

The 15-year-old boy was completely buried under the rubble and mud. His body was pulled out only around 5 in the morning with the help of the neighbours and police.

The mother of the six-year old boy was also in the same room at the time of the disaster. But she was saved by the family members. She has been admitted to Phuentsholing hospital. Doctors said she is not able to breathe properly. She has also sustained cuts on her legs, hands and chest.

Another family member, a 21-year-old son, has sustained cut on his head. He was sleeping in the kitchen. The kitchen has been completely destroyed but he managed to squeeze his way out through the rubble. He was admitted to the hospital but was later discharged.

The father sustained left hand injury while trying to pull out his trapped children and nephew out of the rubble. He is being treated at the hospital.

Landslides have claimed another live in Kabretar in Phuentsholing. The 62-year-old man, an Indian national died after landslides buried the temporary shed he was sleeping in. The incident occurred early this morning around 2:30 am.

Meanwhile, on the command of His Majesty the King, the regional office of the Gyalpoi Zimpon in Phuentsholing has delivered semso to the affected families.
