In an effort to reduce excessive use of papers in the Gewogs and to speed up the work, local leaders of Trashigang are undergoing a week-long training on basic computer skills.

Except for basic skills like saving documents and printing, most local leaders do not have any idea of Microsoft Power Point, Excel, how to create and use email and proper usage of internet.

“In my Gewog, all the computer related works are done by me,” said Yangchen Lhamo, a Gaydrung of Lumang Gewog. “But the knowledge that I have until now is nothing. I learned many new skills and hope to speed up the works back in the Gewog.”

The training is expected to boost their computer knowledge and IT skills.

“Now, we don’t have to fill up the forms manually. That way we can reduce the use of papers and even maintain the office,” said Sagteng Mangmi, Lhendup.

The Dzongkhag ICT officer said the move is to help improve the presentation skills for the mid-term reviews and accelerate the work plans for 12th Five Year Plan.
