The new Gelegphu Dungkhag office is being constructed in Thongjazor village in Umling Gewog, 33 kilometres away from the present dungkhag office.

The government funded construction being carried out on a five acre land overlooking villages in Umling  is estimated to cost Nu 30m. The works began in December last year and is expected to be complete by July next year.

Meanwhile, the people of Umling are elated with the relocation of the dungkhag office to their gewog. They say it will spur many developmental activities in their community.

“Besides Umling, it will also benefit Tareythang and Chhuzaggang Gewogs,” said Leki Wangmo, a villager.

Others hope the developmental works will help combat wildlife menace. Having the dungkhag office in their gewog also means an easy access to services offered by it and an improved security.

The relocation of the dungkhag office was approved at the seventh special Dzongkhag Tshogdu held in 2013.
