Some students are making the best use of the month long summer vacation. For instance, in Monggar, over 100 students from four higher secondary schools are attending a two-week long spiritual training.

The training is being held at two religious institutes- the Kidheykhar Lungtok Choki Gatshel Shedra and Kidheykhar Nunnery Shedra in Monggar.

Since the beginning of the programme yesterday, participants have been familarised to developing good character and triumphing against destructive habits like drug and alcohol abuse.

Central Monastic Body, the organiser of the programme said they endeavour to see students become productive and good human beings in future and hence the reason for providing spiritual training.

“His Majesty always emphasises that future of the country lies in the hands of the younger generations. The training’s objective is to fulfill His Majesty’s vision of making youth into productive citizens,” said Ngawang Tenzin, Lam Neten of Monggar Rabdey.

The Dzongkhag Chief Education Officer Wangchuk said such trainings are always welcomed since it helps students to spend their school breaks more fruitfully.

“The training will benefit the students in treating the mental health related issues,” he added.

For participants too, spiritual training is indeed a good opportunity for them to explore their inner self and try to see the interrelationship between the spiritual and the material worlds.

“It is very difficult to practice religion which is all about compassion and kindness, so I am attending spiritual training to be wiser person,” said one of the participants, Norbu Tshering.

Another participant Dorji Duba said it was his conscious decision to undergo training for the benefit of his own self and that is to become a better human being.

Over the next 13 days, students will be exposed to religious dimensions such as four noble truths, middle path, reciting prayers and mantras, and significance of religious ceremonies among others.
