The 33-year-old caretaker of the Yangchenphug High School who was critically injured is now recovering.
Garan Gurung was physically assaulted by a huge group of men in the small hours of November 28. He was guarding the exam papers for the classes X and XII board examinations.
It is suspected that his attackers had come to steal the exam papers. After attacking him, they broke into a room. The papers were kept in an adjoining room and could not be stolen.
Garan Gurung suffered a fractured skull. On Thursday, he underwent surgery.
A surgeon at the national referral hospital said the operation was successful and described the patient’s condition as stable.
