Merak Primary School under Merag Gewog in Trashigang has witnessed an increase in student enrolment for Pre-Primary level since this academic session.

Over 160 pupils have been enrolled, this time. However, over 140 students were enrolled in the school, last year.

The rise in enrolment has been possible due to awareness programme on importance of education in one’s life.

“This time we have enrolled children who are five and half years also. That is why I think most of the children have been enrolled with our school. Also, parents are now eager to send their children to schools,” said the Principal of Merak Primary School, Zung Dorji.

Earlier, people of Merag were reluctant to send their children to schools. Since the school is located about 3,500 metres above sea level, the school resumes yearly academic session two months later than many other schools in the country.

The school provides free breakfast and lunch to its students, daily. It was opened in 1987 with 88 students.
