Lyonpo Dorji Choden said 18 Gewog Centre (GC) roads have been excluded from the list of GC roads to be blacktopped by end of next year.

The Works and Human Settlement Minister was responding to a question on GC road blacktopping in the National Assembly yesterday.

A total of 157 GC roads are expected to be blacktopped by end of 2018. The MP of Kengkhar-Weringla constituency, Rinzin Jamtsho, asked the government on why Silambi and Gungdue GC roads were left out from the list.

Explaining that it’s not only Silambi and Gungdue GC roads, Lyonpo Dorji Choden shared that 18 GC roads have been excluded from the list after these roads were found to be small and weak with poor soil quality.

In addition, Lyonpo said, some of the roads were completed only last year and so blacktopping is not feasible technically.
