South Thimphu’s MP Yeshey Zimba asked for clarification on the cost implication of the delayed construction of Dalbari to Lhamoi Dzingkha highway in the National Assembly, today.

The works and human settlement minister, Dorji Choden responded that although the construction and widening of the highway got prolonged, there was no issue of cost escalation.

Lyonpo Dorji Choden also said initially, the overall cost was over Nu 1.4B but after reassessment, it came to over Nu 1.2B.

The construction of Dalbari to Lhamoi Dzingkha highway came to the standstill from December 2014 until March 2017.

This was due to unfair tendering process which was uncovered by the Anti-Corruption Commission. However, contract works were re-tendered and works have resumed at the site, since last month.
