A 69-year-old woman was killed on the spot by an elephant in the early hours of December 5th in Manigang_Tashithang chiwog under Pemaling Gewog in Samtse.

According to sources, a group of school-going students alerted the deceased woman and her family when they saw the elephant near their house. When the family rushed out, the elephant attacked the woman while others, including the students, managed to escape.

This was the first sighting of an elephant in the chiwog. The elephant did not cause any other damage before retreating into the jungle.
