The Bhutan International Karate Championship was dominated by young karate players from Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri- Lanka.

From almost 400 participants, more than 200 were young who are either 16 year old or younger.

One among the younger lot is 11 year old, Sherub Tenzin Gyeltshen. He lost in the finals but his passion for karate has not been diminished any lesser.

“I played karate for about two years and I love it. I want to be karate master and represent my country at the international event in future,” said Sherub.

Another young player, Khendum Tshogyel Wang said every woman in the country must play karate to boost one’s self esteem.

The two day International Karate Championship ended yesterday in the capital. Participants competed in categories of sub juniors, cadet, juniors and seniors.

Such sporting event was held to promote karate in the South Asian region. It was also a prep-up match for the world karate championship, slated to be held in Japan in 2018.
