In the next two years, schools across the country will see changes in the curriculum and the education system. A few changes include bringing an end to multi-tasking of teachers and updating school textbooks.
This was discussed during the three-day National School Curriculum Conference which ended in the capital, Monday.
The participants discussed the resolutions before endorsing them. The resolutions focus on bringing quality and making the curriculum relevant. It also focuses on engaging the students.
“The other big shift that I see is one teacher one subject where the teachers can really professionally justify on a particular subject and I think what has come out of it clearly states the need to work together… “said the education minister, Norbu Wangchuk.
The need and purpose for having assessments were also discussed. Lyonpo added there is a need to update and reduce the number of textbooks.
“Today our History teachers know the role of United Nations much better than what this author knew 37 years back. But our History teacher dare not teach what they know currently because the BCSEA sets questions from the textbooks. These are prime examples of how textbook reduces learning, makes learning very shallow in the classrooms.”
