His Majesty with the people of Seaphu

His Majesty spent the Coronation Day with the thousands of people who had gathered at Bechu Goenpai Thang to welcome their King. His Majesty The King arrived at Saephu in Wangdue Phodrang in the afternoon, yesterday.

His Majesty crosses Rinchen Zoe la (5,920m), the highest pass between Thanza and Seaphu. This is the time that the people of Lunana make their final treks across to buy rations for the long winter ahead, before the pass is impassable due to snow.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag representatives, students, and the people of nearby villages came to Saephu to welcome His Majesty, and celebrate Coronation Day. People offered Zhabten to His Majesty, and presented a cultural programme.

His Majesty granted Tokha to the people.

His Majesty The King began the final part of the 245 kilometre trek across Lunana, from Thanza on Saturday. His Majesty crossed the Rinchen Zoe pass at 5,920 metres, and spent the night camped beside the Um tsho, a sacred lake in which Pema Lingpa is said to have found numerous treasures.

During the Royal Visit across Lunana, His Majesty trekked through the sparsely populated gewog, to meet with the people who live scattered in this remote part of Bhutan, and visit the glaciers and Thorthomi, Rapstreng, and Lugge glacial lakes.

Meanwhile, people across the country celebrated the Coronation Day by offering prayers and butter lamps for His Majesty’s long life and reign. Zhabten was also offered to His Majesty The King.

On 1st November, 2008, His Majesty The King received Dhar Nye-Nga or the five silken scarves from the Holy Machen of Punakha dzong. The Dhar Nye Nga is received each time a royal successor is enthroned. The sacred ceremony symbolises the continuity of enlightened guidance from the golden throne.
