her-majesty-gyalyum-sangay-choden-wangchuck-in-trongsaHer Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, the UNFPA’s goodwill ambassador met with the students, teachers, business community and health officials in Trongsa, yesterday.

Her Majesty is on a high-level advocacy tour which covers public health issues like safe motherhood, HIV/AIDS, and suicide prevention.

Her Majesty said the rise in the number of HIV/AIDS cases; alcohol related problems and suicides has become a major concern for the country.

“The alcohol related diseases and suicide is increasing annually across the country. Every year some 73 people commit suicide which is six suicide cases every month”

Her Majesty’s visit is to continue to create awareness on public health and social issues.

Her Majesty also visited the Trongsa hospital and interacted with the patients and the staff.

Her Majesty visited the Trongsa Dzong and offered butter lamps.
