Samdrup Jongkhar’s gate closed following Assam strike

samdrup-jongkhars-gate-closed-following-assam-strikeSamdrup Jongkhar’s border gate is closed after a 36-hours strike has been called in the border Indian state of Assam.

Adivashi Yuba Manch called for All Assam Strike to protest the alleged move of the India’s central government to handover 12 oilfields of Assam to private agency, according to Samdrup Jongkhar’s police.

The strike is expected to be called off Sunday at 5 AM.

People travelling from Phuentshogling, Gelegphu, Samtse, Nanglam and Jomotshangkha to Samdrup Jongkhar have been asked to plan their travel accordingly.

On Monday, another 100-hours strike is likely to be called in Assam by Democratic Movement for Bodoland who are demanding creation of a separate state of Bodoland.

Samdrup Jongkhar Police has asked people to get in touch with them before making travelling plans.
