Eight women vie for LG posts in Paro

Eight women will be contesting from Paro in the upcoming local government elections. Of the eight, three will compete for the posts of gup.

All three have had experience of working as local leaders.

Tsheten Zangmo, 36, from Goensakha-Phuchhekha under Dokar Gewog is a former Mangmi.

Sangay Lhamo, 40, from Drugyaldingkha under Sharpa Gewog is a former Tshogpa.

Phub Dolma, 37, from Mendrel-Nakha, Wangchang Gewog is a former Mangmi.

The women candidates for the post of Mangmi are Chimi Dema, 31, from Mendrel-Uesuna, Dokar Gewog, Tshering Dema, 31, from Pangbisa, Loong-nyi Gewog, Tandin Wangmo, 44, from Naemjog, Loong-nyi Gewog, Sonam Pelden, 32, from Wanakha-Zursoona, Nagya Gewog, and Sherab Lham, 37, from Gaupel, Hoongrel Gewog.

The eight female contestants are among the 70 candidates registered for the posts of Gup and Mangmi from the 10 gewogs in Paro.

The election office, however, said the numbers are subject to change.

They will be carrying out scrutiny of the nominations starting tomorrow and will finish by the September 3.
