Election body upholds Kipse Constituency’s Zomdu result
Sangay Tenzin failed to get nominated to contest for the post of Thrompon

Samdrup Jongkhar’s Election Dispute Settlement Body said the nomination result for Thrompon candidate of Kipse Constituency cannot be nullified.

They said the only lapse of the election officials on duty was allowing a voter to vote with a photocopy of citizenship Identity card.

Otherwise, the dispute body said, there were no infringement of election rules and regulation during the nomination.

After failing to get nominated, a thrompon-aspirant, Sangay Tenzin had submitted a petition to the dispute settlement body. He had secured 39 ‘No’ votes and 35 ‘Yes’, during the Zomdu.

Among other complaints, Sangay Tenzin had said some voters could not vote due to lapses in the draft electorate roll.

The dispute body said the photocopy of CID was accepted, as the voter has misplaced his Voter Photo Identity Card and left his Identity Card in Orong.

The polling official had allowed him to vote with his ID’s photocopy because his name was reflected in the electoral roll.
