Two sentenced in connection with vehicle insurance claim corruptionPhuentshogling Dungkhag Court sentenced two, a Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan Limited’s employee and a private individual in connection with vehicle insurance claim corruption case.

They have been sentenced to one year for bribery.

Both can pay money in lieu of the prison term.

The private individual has also been asked to refund Nu 124,000 to RICBL, which he received as insurance.

Another private individual has been asked to refund over Nu 2.2 M to RICBL, which he claimed as insurance for his damaged excavator.

Of the 11 individuals allegedly involved in the case, the court has acquitted four.

Some cases were deferred due to lack of evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

The Anti-Corruption Commission investigated the case and charged 11 of them for corrupt practices relating to insurance claims and other misconducts in 2014.

The alleged individuals are employees of RICBL, STCBL, Police and private individuals.
