FM-GeowgUtilityVehicleThe finance minister, Namgay Dorji said the Government of India (GoI) is funding the procurement of utility vehicles for gewogs. The vehicles will be procured as per the procurement rules and regulations in practice.

The government will provide utility vehicles after the Local Government Elections, the minister said.

Lyonpo said the total amount is Nu 146 M which they already had sourced in 2015.

However, because of other priorities of the government, they could not procure the vehicles.

“The operation and maintenance cost will be borne by the government.”

The ministry is coming out with guidelines in which all the terms and conditions will be clearly spelt out.

And, those gewogs without road connectivity will have chopper service instead of utility vehicles.

There are six gewogs which do not have road connectivity.

“We have decided to give 50 percent concession to these gewogs for using chopper service,” said the minister.

Lyonpo also said any chiwogs or villages without road connectivity can use the chopper service for 50 percent discount.
