RBA’s Wing 7 wins inter-wing boxing championshipThe Wing-7 of the Royal Bhutan Army, in Lungtenphu, Thimphu won the inter-wing boxing championship held in the capital.

The Army’s Wing-8 in Samtse came second.

The final matches were played yesterday.

Nearly 70 boxers from eight Wings of the Royal Bhutan Army took part in the championship. They competed in nine different weight categories.

In the 49 kg, the flyweight category, Gopa Dorji Peljor of Wing 7 in Lungtenphu, won the gold medal.

Gopa Sonam, also from Wing 7 from Lungtenphu won the gold in heavyweight category, which is 91 kilograms.

The match saw two knockout wins.

Chuma Karma Wangchuk, representing Wing 12 in Wangdue, knocked out his opponent in the third round to win the 75 kilograms category.RBA’s Wing 7 wins inter-wing boxing championship--

Similarly, Gopa Thinley, of Wing 7 in Lungtenphu, knocked out his opponent in the first round to win the 81 kilograms category.

Chuma Chimmi, from Wing 7 in Lungtenphu was declared the best boxer of the year 2016.

Winners received some cash along with medals and certificates.

The event was jointly organised by Bhutan Boxing Federation and Bhutan Olympic Committee.
