Strengthen ACC’s financial security- NC MembersNational Council members said the Anti-Corruption Commission’s financial security needs to be strengthened.

The discussion came up with ACC’s prime donor agency, Swiss Development Cooperation, phasing out its financial support in September, this year.

About 58 percent of ACC’s yearly budget is from donor agencies.

Wangdue Phodrang NC MP, Tashi Dorji said the government should provide adequate fund for ACC.

“When ACC puts up a budget requirement, the Government must provide them the financial support. ACC will never put up a requirement beyond what they require. They have been setting a good example and the budget provided will be used properly.”

ACC had proposed Nu 133 M for 2016-17. But, the government has agreed to give Nu 123 M, Nu 10 M lesser than the proposed budget.

Pema Gatshel’s National Council member, Jigmi Rinzin said there must be a clause authorising a budget allocation for ACC in the Public Finance Act.

“If ACC wants to avail themselves of financial support from the government, they must propose for an amendment of the Public Finance Act”

The Upper House instructed the Good Governance Committee and members to discuss.

They are to present the discussion’s outcome on Friday when ACC’s annual report is endorsed.
