The final date for resignation of incumbent local leaders, wishing to re-contest, in the upcoming Local Government elections will be announced on June 7. This comes after some local leaders, wishing to re-contest, had expressed confusion over their date of resignation.
“As the election period begins, candidates will be engaged in Chiwog Zomdu during which the current local leaders wanting to re-contest will have to resign. Local leaders re-contesting will have to resign not later than second week of June,” said Ugyen of Legal and Communications Division under Election Commission of Bhutan.
The rest, ECB said, can serve till the end of their respective terms.
Also, ECB briefed more than 200 teachers from Thimphu on the elections and procedures of postal ballot.
The Open House Voter Education programme will be held every Tuesday for the next five weeks.
