Two apprehended for allegedly possessing controlled substanceThimphu police apprehended two men for allegedly possessing about 90 capsules of controlled substance, yesterday.

After a tip-off, the police had tracked the duo “rubbing” marijuana plants at Langjophakha.

The police had recovered the substance from the duo’s pant while frisking them.

Both are out-of-school youth.

Police said they were under the influence of controlled substance.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man is under Paro police custody for allegedly possessing 100 capsules of controlled substance.

Police apprehended the former cab driver on Sunday from Paro town. The suspect, according to the police, was under the influence of controlled substance at the time of arrest.

They also recovered Nu 17,000 from the man.

Police say the suspect could have bought the substance for trafficking.

The accused, on the other hand, said it was for self-consumption.

The Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Substance Abuse Act, 2015, says those found possessing controlled substance will be sentenced for a minimum of three years imprisonment.

The sentence is non-compoundable.
