Thimphu District Court to have specialised benchesThimphu District Court will have specialised benches within the next three months. It will have a Family and Children Bench, two Criminal Benches, and two Commercial Benches.

Family and Children Bench will handle cases related to children, matrimony, and property disputes. It will also handle civil cases.

The Criminal Benches will conduct trials of the cases forwarded by police, Office of the Attorney General and Anti-Corruption Commission.

Commercial Benches will deal with cases associated with commercial and monetary.

The Chief Judge of Thimphu District Court , Kinley Namgay said they felt the need for additional benches since number of criminal and commercial cases are on the rise and are also becoming complex in nature.

Despite budget constraints, the Chief Judge said they will go ahead with the specialization of benches.

The court sees an average of some 20 cases daily.
