DomesticFlighttoGelephug-soontoStartThe National airline, Drukair will resume operating commercial flights to Gelephug from May 15. The airline had suspended flight operations to Gelephug since February owing to strong winds that might pose risks to planes while flying.

Durkair officials say they decided to resume flying to Gelephug as the weather has been improving.

Drukair introduced commercial flights to Gelephug in December last year.

For Bhutanese, one way airfare to Gelephug is Nu 4,667 while for tourists, it is US$ 177.

Drukair still operates flights to Bathpalathang Domestic Airport in Bumthang. Since Yongphula Domestic airport in Trashigang is undergoing a major facelift, Drukair has stopped flying there for time being.

Meanwhile, the Department of Air Transport is likely to propose revision of aeronautical and air navigation charges this July.

It has been a decade since the charges was last revised.

Aeronautical charges include charges for the landing and parking of planes. Air navigation charges are for facilities that are used for directing planes’ landing and take-off.

Air Transport Department is doing an independent research and study on aeronautical and air navigation charges of countries in the South Asian region.
