PGatshelDT-RoadThe Dzongkhag Tshogdue in Pema Gatshel has asked Druk Satair Corporation to support maintaining the highway. The members say hundreds of trucks, carrying gypsum, ply the highway every day, damaging the road.

The 24-kilometre highway from Tshelingkhor to Pema Gatshel has numerous potholes.

PGatshelDT-Road---The road’s condition is even worse between Pema Gatshel town and Khothakpa; an 18-kilometre stretch, where the mine in located.

“The trucks are damaging the blacktopping-works in just a week,” said Zobel’s Gup, Pema Dorji.

He said the Department of Roads get limited budget to carry out the maintenance.

“The gypsum mining company is benefiting the owner and truckers only. There is no benefit to the people,” said Pema Dorji.

He said he is raising the issue since the public is bearing the brunt while it is just a handful that is reaping the benefit from the mine.

The Dzongkhag Tshogdue has written to Druk Satair Corporation. The company is yet to respond.

The company says the issue will be discussed during their board meeting.
