DaganaMTRThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay urged Dagana Dzongkhag to have safe child delivery in hospitals, during the Midterm Review.

Of the set target of 90 percent, the district could achieve only about 51 percent.

Dagana Dzongdag, Tenzin Thinley said since they were not able to meet the target, they requested the government to bring it down.

Lyonchhen said the dzongkhag should not bring down the target and instead stressed on institutional deliveries.

“Our mission is to have 100 percent child birth in hospitals,” said the Prime Minister.

The other areas where the dzongkhag failed to meet the targets were production of millet and mustard.

From 238 metric tons, the set target for mustard should be brought down to 168 metric tons, the dzongkhag requested. As for millet production, it should be brought down to 270 metric tons from 477.

Tenzin Thinley attributed the lesser production to the waning interests of farmers in mustard and millet cultivation.

He also requested the government for crop subsidy and to strengthen technical capacity of field staff.

The Prime Minister said that the agricultural ministry would provide the support as requested.
