Man arrested for swindling moneyBumthang Police arrested a man, 26, who was on the run, for allegedly swindling money through deception. The suspect, arrested four days after the incident, has been sent to Thimphu police as the alleged crime took place in the capital.

The suspect had responded to an advertisement on social media saying he is willing to buy US$ 8,000 at Nu 65 per dollar. He had told the seller he works at foreign ministry and they should trade at the National Assembly’s parking lot.

As agreed, the seller met the suspect at the parking lot.

According to Thimphu police, the suspect took the cash and went inside the ministry saying he will be back with the exchange amount. But, he never returned. His phone was also switched off.

The complainant then informed the police.

Sale and purchase of foreign currency, other than banks and authorised money changer, is illegal under foreign exchange regulation.
