Education Minister steps down

Education Minister Mingbo Dukpa

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay submitted recommendations to His Majesty the King for Royal Assent to reshuffle the Cabinet, after Education Minister decided to step down. The recommendations were submitted yesterday.

The Education Minister Mingbo Drukpa has submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister to step down as the Education Minister. A press release from the People’s Democratic Party Office states the Education Minister cited personal reasons for his resignation. The Minister also recommended a younger person be made in-charge of the ministry to carry forward the education blue print and the school reform agenda. He however will continue to serve as the Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Economic Affairs Minister Norbu Wangchuk will be the new Education Minister and the Bardo-Trong member of Zhemgang, Lekey Dorji will be appointed as the new Economic Affairs Minister.

MP Lekey Dorji has been serving as the chairperson of legislative Committee, as Deputy Chair of the House Committee and as a member of the Economic and Private Sector Development Committee of the National Assembly. He has a M.Sc. in Telecom and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Coventry University, UK and University of Kansas, USA respectively.

The recommendations were submitted to His Majesty in accordance with Article 17, Section 3 of the Constitution.
