Man detained for illicit trafficking of controlled substances

IllicitDrugTraffuicking-TaxiDriverPhuentshogling Police arrested a 27-year-old Taxi Driver for illicit trafficking of controlled substances at Rinchending Check Post, this morning.

But, the suspect says the substances belong to his friend. He told the police his friend have him Nu 6000 to reach the contraband substances from Phuentshogling to Thimphu.

More than 150 cases of illicit trafficking of controlled substances, illegal possession and abuse of controlled substances were reported since September last year till date.

Police says such cases are increasing and that they are strictly implementing Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 2015.

The act states that a person possessing more than ten controlled capsules is imprisoned for a minimum of three years and the imprisonment is non-compoundable.
