RoadHealth Minister, Tandin Wangchuk, inaugurated the 11-kilometer Jalla farm road, which will benefit about 37 households, of Wangdue Phodrang’s Rubesa Gewog, yesterday.

The farm road connects Richukha and Jalla Village.

Earlier, it took four hours uphill walk and two hours downhill for the people of Jalla to reach a road head.
“It will now be easier for us to visit Basic Health Unit, go shopping, and also sell our agriculture produce,” said a local, Chimmi Dorji.

Another local, Phub Dorji said it used to take them days to reach Thimphu, earlier. “Travelling to the capital now will no longer be a problem,” he said.

The construction, which began in 2013-14 financial year, was completed a month ago.

Punatshangchu Hydropower Project had funded Nu 15 M for the construction of the farm road.

Wangdue Phodrang’s Dzongkhag Agriculture Officer, Sonam Zangpo said the government also provided engineering and technical support.

He said a machine from the Central Machinery Unit was deployed for five months for the road’s clearing.
PHPA’s Managing Director and officials and officials from other sectors also attended the inaugural ceremony.
