NC(Update): Responding to the Prime Minister’s statement, the National Council’s Chairperson, Dr. Sonam Kinga said since the Enterprise Registration Bill is a government’s bill they thought they would give opportunity to the government to rework on it.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay had said he will support the National Council’s recommendations if it is more time, the Upper House needs, for deliberation of the bill.

Dr.Sonam Kinga, on the other hand, said they held around 18 meetings to discuss the bill. He said it is not just one to two topics but the entire bill that needed review.

He said the Prime Minister’s statement implies that National Council hadn’t put in effort on the bill at all.
Lyonchhen had made the statement while the National Assembly was discussing the withdrawal of Enterprise Registration Bill.

The National Assembly withdrew the bill yesterday; a couple of days after the National Council withdrew the bill citing loopholes.

The National Council had submitted recommendations to the National Assembly after it reviewed the bill for five months.

Enterprise Registration Bill is to make economic system viable by providing business registration system and a separate legal entity.

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk had said the bill, if passed, would formalize 98 percent of businesses in the country.
