NA rejects Opposition’s proposal to discuss Paro Thromde’s boundaryThe National Assembly has rejected the Opposition’s proposal to reconsider the Parliament’s decision on the boundary of Paro Thromde. Locals in Paro fear that they will not be able to farm, as more than 500 acres of paddy fields now come under the new thromde boundary.

The parliament had finalised the boundary in the previous session.

“There were 68 members in the Joint Sitting when the boundary was finalized and 60 MPs supported the decision,” said National Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, Chimi Dorji. He said even the Opposition had supported the move, then. “There is nothing more to delve into and the issues faced by the people are being taken care of by the Ministry to Works and Human Settlement.”

However, the Deputy Speaker gave one final chance to the members of the Opposition to make their case.

South Thimphu’s MP, Yeshey Zimba said it is important for the parliament to discuss the issue as the local leaders and people are not happy with the decision. “Thromde development is entirely different from other development activities. It entails lot of budget to set up urban amenities.”

But the Deputy Speaker stuck to the earlier decision and said once the parliament decides, the decision is final.
